Could you use a Digital Leader?
We are delighted to offer a volunteer team of student Digital Leaders trained to take equipment into schools to support classroom projects on the themes of ‘media’ and ‘technology outdoors’. Digital Leaders are part of the University’s wider STEM Champion Programme which is being developed to provide opportunities for students to engage with schools through their own particular passion for science.
Contact helen.caldwell@northampton.ac.uk if you would like your school to be involved.
Digital Leader training
Looking to volunteer as a Digital Leader?
We have opportunities for student volunteers from any discipline with an interest in digital technology to work with groups of local primary school children to use technology purposefully and creatively. There is an emphasis on the use of mobile devices such as iPads and on integrating technology and the Arts.
You will take equipment such as iPads and cameras into schools to run small group workshops on themes such as:
- Using augmented reality apps to make trails
- Devising QR code treasure hunts
- Greenscreen filming
- Making film trailers
These activities will follow on from workshops for teachers led by UoN staff.
Full training will be provided and support will be ongoing. You will be invited to join the growing University STEM network. Travel expenses are available but need to be agreed in advance. You will also have the opportunity to evaluate your STEM activities to gain University recognition.
This opportunity has many benefits in terms of Employability Skills. It will provide you with excellent experiences in developing a teaching role, in using technology, and in joining a project team. You will be able to show that you can work with schools to inspire and supervise pupils of various ages, that you can facilitate the production of shareable digital artefacts, and that you can assist with project documentation and dissemination.
