Academic Practice

During 2022-23 and 2023-24, we are continuing to offer the academic practice provision at UON, which is accredited by Advance HE and includes three main elements:

This accredited provision is aligned to the Professional Standards Framework (PSF 2011) for teaching and supporting learning in higher education. Advance HE have published the revised PSF 2023 and put in place ‘A transition period of two years until January 2025 … to support institutions to make any changes to adopt the use of PSF 2023 within their accredited provision in a structured, planned way and at a pace to suit them’. We are developing our academic practice offer to align with this revised PSF, with the enhanced provision and fellowship scheme to be in place for 2024-25.

We have plans in place for this: A project focused on the further development of the academic practice provision at the University of Northampton (March 2023 – July 2024) is currently underway. Please view the Plans for Enhancing Academic Practice.

Introduction to C@N-DO – Our CPD Scheme for Academic Staff

Supporting academic staff with their professional development is a key focus of activity for Learning and Teaching Enhancement. Our academic staff development scheme is known as C@N-DO, which:

  • is a flexible programme of practical professional development *workshops and a programme of support, peer review and scholarship for enabling positive development across all aspects of teaching and learner support at the University of Northampton.
  • is designed for all members of staff who are involved in teaching or who play a role in supporting learning and teaching, and aligned to the UKPSF – a globally-recognised framework for benchmarking success within HE teaching and learning support.
  • offers a range of professional recognition for staff involved in teaching and supporting the learning and teaching process, including professional recognition as Associate Fellow, Fellow and Senior Fellow of the HEA, and supports staff towards achieving higher awards as Principal Fellow, or within the National Teaching Fellow Scheme and the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence.

* C@N-DO Workshops can often be arranged specifically within Faculties or Subject Teams, particularly if timetabling makes participation difficult on the published dates.
