New to Teaching Pathway

The New to Teaching Pathway is designed for staff who are new or relatively new to teaching or supporting learning.

The pathway involves a group of ten to fifteen members of staff within a particular faculty; participants engage in a programme of monthly development sessions and workshops, which are run over a period of six months. Workshops consider a range of relevant areas, such as Approaches to teaching, Active Blended Learning and Exploring feedback. The pathway is designed to support participants to develop an application for Associate Fellowship or Fellowship.
There is an emphasis on learning and working together by sharing experiences and practice, and engaging in peer observation of learning and teaching. Participants are encouraged to keep a journal or use a similar tool to support their reflective practice.

Fellowship Category

How to apply to the pathway

The pathway is designed for a group of between ten to fifteen participants, who are committed to engaging in the full programme of monthly session over a period of six months. To apply to take part in the pathway, participants are asked to undertake the following:

  • Use the Fellowship Category Tool, to help determine that Associate Fellowship or Fellowship is appropriate in relation to your experience.
  • Complete an expression of interest form. In this form, include your reflections on the results of completing the Fellowship Category Tool; the nature of your role in relation to teaching and/or supporting learning; your motivation and reasons for wishing to take part in the pathway; and how you can make a commitment to engaging in the programme over a six-month period (around 150-200 words).
  • Please make sure you have approval from your line manager to participate in this pathway. The form includes a section for your line manager to complete.
  • Send your completed form to the Academic Practice team: LTE@northampton.ac.uk
  • If you would like to take part in the pathway that runs from February until July 2025, please send your completed expression of interest form by the 14 January 2025 to the Academic Practice team: LTE@northampton.ac.uk
