Using the Tellagami app by Elise and Jess

Focus:
Sharing and reflecting on our work we have done in our sessions.

Suitable for:
Foundation Stage/KS1

What will you need for this activity?:
An app on the Ipads called Tellagami

What you would do:
We created the Tellagami below to explain what we had done in one of our sessions and why it was good. We thought a good way for children to use the app is to describe a picture which would be in the background. The teacher could select a picture which they wanted children to talk about, which the children could then work on. When we used the app, we chose to use a characters voice and type in what we wanted them to say, but to make it simpler for the children, they could use the recording tool which would then use their own voice.

Learning Benefits:
This activity would allow children to describe what they see and encourage different word choices. They will have to use a variety of adjectives therefore enhancing their vocabulary.

Taking it further:
To start with, the teacher can use simple pictures, but if a child finds this easy they could make the pictures more complex and detailed to challenge the children on what they can identify. For children working in late key stage 1, the teacher could encourage them to try and type what they can see instead of using the recording tool.

(Below is our example of how the Tellagami app could be used. Although the topic and idea is not the same as the activity I have suggested above, it shows you what the app could offer).
