The issues discussed in the video below apply to most organisations and institutions, and impact on the engagement, productivity and progress of individuals from BAME backgrounds. Although they focus on black voices in America’s corporate system, they represent the voices of a large percentage of the BAME population across the globe.
It is not only about companies issuing statements on equality and diversity, it is about a true change in mindset, education of one’s self, strong leadership and positive action. If you truly want to deal with the situation of race within your organisation, then OWN and believe in your actions. What does this have to do with the attainment gap? It has been highlighted as one of the issues that has an impact on attainment. Pain, anger, rage and frustration are the emotions felt by most staff and students from BAME backgrounds.
