What did the researchers say?

” That made me happy!”

” I was ok, then angry, then happy”.

” I had lots of emotions”.

” I didn’t feel good at the beginning, at the end I felt good, so in the end I say a thumbs up!”

” I’m ok”.

What did the researchers make?

The researchers discussed the music, content and responses to the session. They discussed what mental wellbeing is and related to the ‘ 5 steps’

  • Connect with other people
  • Be physically active
  • Learn new skills
  • Give to others
  • Pay attention to the present moment (mindfulness)

They evaluated the importance of each of the above statements to themselves and then orded the statements in priority, linked to their emotional responses.

Reflection: Key observations and findings

  • The percussion was enjoyed by all participants.
  • The researchers noted the need for collaboration and observed how well the class had engaged, as a whole.
  • ‘Thinking time’ (during the session) was a good idea and ‘helped us to focus’.
  • Group chanting and making up a chant/rap was very enjoyable.

” Turn on the power and listen to the sound, wheels start turning round and round

Levers pulled making marbles roll, sounding on the metal bars like bells that toll”.
