This activity involves both plug-in and plug-out tasks.
Activity Aims:
- Understand the importance of precise instructions
- Allow children to get a sense of direction
- To be able to give a successful set of instructions
Activity Directions
- Allow children to investigate the Beebots on the map seeing if they are able to get from A to B,
- With a larger map, group the children into groups appointing one as the human Beebot, the rest of the group must give instructions that the human beebot must follow, getting from point A to B to C etc, this allows children to give and receive instructions. It also helps children gain a sense of direction after rotating which children may struggle with when using the Beebots.
- After giving correct instruction on the Human Beebot the children can record the instruction which can then be used on the real Beebots.
Differentiation
- Higher ability children can be given the more complicated Beebot, which includes inputting the number of moves.
- Give children a number of places they need to visit on the map in one sequence.
- Give children two Beebots to use at the same time ensuring that they do not crash. This can be practised first by the human Beebots.
