Focus:
Computing
Suitable For:
Key Stage 1
What you need:
Beebot and pirate mat
What you do:
Introduce the beebot to the class letting the children become familiar with its movement. Get the children to give instructions modelling the programming of the bot. Give the children starting co-ordinates on the map and an end co-ordinate and get them to programme the bot using the directional keys.
The Learning benefits:
- Repetition – doing the same instruction more than once
- Teamwork – working in groups
- Debugging – identifying and fixing mistakes
- Developing instructional language
- Increasing creativity
Taking it further:
This could be developed by using two beebots mirroring the first ones actions.
A video clip of the beebot in action can be seen here.
