Puppetpal on Ipad – https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/puppet-pals-hd/id342076546?mt=8

What you do:

Children are able to make their own puppet show through the iPads, starting by deciding what their show is going to be about. The children then have different backgrounds to choose from and can capture their own if they want, this allows them to make it personal. Once the children have all the pictures they want (of characters and backgrounds) they are able to insert them. Using fine motor skills they are able to move the puppets onto the screen, while telling their story.

Learning benefits:

Children are developing their knowledge of their natural world, capturing images that suit their show idea. They are also learning how you can use different media to create types of role play.

Children’s fine motor skills are being developed by using their fingers to operate the iPad.

Supporting confidence and self-esteem as they are able to record themselves where they are comfortable, they don’t have to speak in front of everyone.

Communication and language, developing new vocabulary and learning from peers.

Taking it further:

Give the children a theme, this way you are able to see how children interpret things different and assess their learning.

Before starting the activity children could create a story board about what they plan to do. This will get children thinking and reviewing their ideas before creating the final piece. It also encourages children to think about what parts of the environment they want to capture to put into their puppet show and what characters they are going to use.
