Aspirations vs Reality: What Adulting Tells us About the Politics of Linearity

In April, Isaac Hoff, Associate Lecturer in Sociology, published ‘Aspirations vs Reality – What Adulting Tells us About the Politics of Linearity’ in the Youth edition of The Sociological Review magazine. This piece details how being able to aspire to conventional ‘adult’ life is tied to intersecting positions of social advantage during times of crisis, and how this is embedded in a politics of temporality. In July, he attended the Practice of Storytelling in Research Conference at the University of Leicester, which saw researchers from social sciences, arts and humanities discuss how storytelling techniques can be used in a range of research approaches.
