Behind the Scenes: How Your Lecturers Spent July Making Your Courses Better

While July may have felt like a quiet month on campus, behind the scenes, academic staff across the School of Psychology and Behavioural Sciences were deeply engaged in a rigorous review and planning process to make your courses better than ever. From refining assessments to enhancing support systems, every decision was driven by one key principle: student feedback matters.

Listening First: Feedback as the Foundation

Your feedback—whether through NSS, mid-module evaluations, course reps, or informal conversations—was not just heard, it was acted upon. Staff reviewed survey results, Padlet comments, and feedback forms to identify what worked and what needed improvement. This included concerns about clarity in assessment briefs, consistency in marking, and timely feedback.

Planning with Purpose: Strategic Improvements

During the Faculty Business Plan Development Day, staff collaborated to align course improvements with university-wide goals. This included:

  • Enhancing academic support through structured tutorials and drop-in sessions.
  • Using student feedback loops to adapt support in real time.
  • Partnering with Student Futures and the SU to co-design initiatives

The planning also addressed broader issues like workload allocation, simulation-based learning, and authentic assessment strategies—all informed by what students said they needed to succeed.

What This Means for You

All of this behind-the-scenes work is ultimately about you—our students. Whether it’s clearer assessment briefs, more engaging lectures, or better support systems, the improvements made over the summer are designed to help you succeed.

So as you settle into the new academic year, know that your lecturers have been working tirelessly to make your experience more rewarding, inclusive, and inspiring.

We look forward to welcoming you all back in September!
Best Wishes,
