Once you have gained your HLTA status you may want to consider how you can develop your role further. Why not look into taking a Foundation Degree in Learning and Teaching (FDLT)?
You can study for this while continuing to work in your school/education setting; your study sessions will just be on one day each week as it is designed to fit in with your work supporting learning. It can be studied with the University of Northampton both in a town based campus and a venue in Leicester.
The programme aims to deepen and extend your understanding of young peoples’ learning and develop your ability to support teachers in raising pupil achievement. It will encourage you to consider research and current principles to enhance your skills and knowledge.
If you have gained HLTA status this may enable you to have prior accreditation against the first year 40 credit work based practice module on evidencing an appropriate certificate – a good opportunity if it is right for you.
If you are considering this as a stepping stone to to becoming a qualified teacher you can top up the 2 year FDLT with a further year’s study on the BA in Learning and Teaching (BALT). After 3 
years you would be ready to access one of the many QTS routes.
