Belgium International Day 3

In the morning, the pupils wrote an overall reflection of the three International Days. This was then uploaded onto the final Thinglink. This took an hour and a half because we only realised halfway that when you have multiple people working on the same document and they upload, only their copy is saved, so the rest of the progress is lost. Luckily, all the documents, pictures and results of the project days were saved elsewhere, so we could just start over on one account.

Reflections from students:

We are really happy about our project because it all worked out as we planned. Also everything went right, but the communication was a bit of a problem. At first, we were going to do the Eiffel Tower but that wasn’t going to work out so instead we decided to build a castle and that was a really good idea. We are not very good at communicating with each other which was kind of annoying but we managed to make it work. Calling with Denmark and Spain was really fun – it was good to talk with them.

some student outcomesWe are semi-proud of our project, but maybe we needed to prepare it better. We had fun making it, but it isn’t a beautiful piece of art. If we had prepared it a bit before, maybe it would be even better. Our first idea didn’t work out, but then we had an okay alternative. The online meetings were not as successful as we expected, but we had fun. The kids were funny and we had a great time (I like paella).

Student outcomes (outdoors)We are very proud about the project, it turned out like we expected. The clothes of the barbies are very good. The plastic melted because of the hot glue. We wouldn’t do things differently. We quickly figured out what we were going to do. The tasks were immediately well-divided. It was a lot of fun to do. We were able to communicate well with the other young people. It was a little bit chaotic.

student outcomes 4We are not completely happy with our project, because the meaning of this project was better than the outcome. We cut our fingers while we were working with trash. We would’ve worked out the project in a different way. The communication was perfect in our group. We didn’t have any problems while we were working on our project. The online meetings were not as successful as we would’ve thought, because the pupils of the other countries didn’t understand us so they didn’t answer our questions, but it was a nice experience.

student outcomes (5)We worked hard on our project, which resulted in a great result. The hardest part was making the wave. Everyone had a task and it was all worked out to perfection. We quickly decided to make a boat that would be overwhelmed by a wave. We had few problems making the boat. The online meetings were really an added value to the whole project.

2. working on the ebookAfter the break, the pupils were divided in five groups:

  • One group received the task of the multiplier event and worked on that with Sabine.
  • Another group completed the Thinglink with the Strava routes from day one.
  • A third group made a TikTok video about the DLAB project.
  • The fourth  group made a text about the links between the artworks and the exposition of Cindy Wright from day one.
  • The last group made a video in which they explained the trash problem (this ended up being a Mr Beast TeamSeas advertisement with a funny twist). The last group also finished the BookCreators.

3. After lunch, Ferre gave a quick introduction to poetry and climate poets. He linked this to the project days and introduced the famous Belgian nature poet Guido Gezelle. We then went to the Gezelle Museum. It was a very interesting visit and the students enjoyed it very much. We had prepared a competitive game for the pupils in which they had to find certain information in the museum as fast as possible in order to win a prize. At the end, everyone won a prize (chocolate eggs because it was nearly Easter) and they ate it while making a poem.
