Developing a proposal
Developing a proposal or writing a research bid is a major commitment. As a researcher, you need to think through all the aspects of the project and how you will make your project idea a reality. Bidding for funding is a competitive process and it is crucial to submit a strong proposal or grant application the first time around. We have put together some guidance on how to get you started along with tips on bid writing and useful resources.
Impact of research
Impact of research has been growing in importance over the past decade with it forming a compulsory part of grant applications for UKRI research councils since 2009. Impact was also included for the first REF in 2014 and therefore forms a key part in how research quality is analysed across universities and how research funding is awarded.
Budget development
We appreciate costing your project can be a daunting experience, especially if it’s your first time. You will find advice and guidance on how to cost your proposal along with the costing principles of Full Economic Costing (fEC).

University research governance and policies
Research undertaken by the University should have a clear purpose and should meet or exceed recognised standards for research practice, ethics and integrity, thereby maintaining the confidence of the public and collaborators in the University’s governance of research. University research governance and policies can be found on the University webpage.
