Schools

*Update March 2024: we are currently recruiting schools for our evaluation of ‘Our Class’. If you are using (or planning to use) the Our Class materials, please contact us to join the evaluation and help us to capture the effectiveness and impact of these materials.*

We are looking for Primary Schools to get involved with using the ‘Our Class’ resources with their Key Stage 2 classes.

Schools are being asked if they would be interested in adopting the Our Class materials as part of their Relationships Education curricula, which would then be evaluated.

What would be involved?
The project is focused on children from Years 3 to 6 and we are happy to work within whichever year group schools feel is appropriate. If you agree to take part in the evalauation, it would involve:

  • a researcher (who has DBS clearance) coming to the school (or visiting remotely via online tools)
  • teacher(s) being asked to use the ‘Our Class’ resources in PSHE lessons about friendship
  • children completing a short age-appropriate survey, lasting about 15 minutes, about what they have learnt during the lesson
  • a small group of children being invited to talk in a group with a researcher about their experiences of the lessons (this can be done online or in person)
  • an interview with the class teacher to obtain their feedback about the materials (this can be done online or in person)

The research team is very experienced in undertaking school-based research and understands the importance of keeping any disruption to a minimum. The research will be undertaken during school time in line with school preferences.

What’s in it for your school?
The benefits of getting involved are that you will have the opportunity to shape the development of educational resources that could be used by other teachers and educational professionals to teach children about friendships and peer relationships. You also gain free access to the resources and can use them with your students as appropriate. In addition, your school will be confidently meeting the statutory relationships education requirements for this unit.
