ABOUT THIS PROJECT

This project focuses on BAME attainment and continuation, investigating staff adoption and institutional take-up of ‘good practice’ recommendations for closing the BAME attainment and continuation gaps at UoN. In particular the project will explore barriers or challenges to this, by engaging both academic and professional services staff beyond the ‘usual suspects’, for instance staff who have not previously taken part in such projects. We will carry out a university-wide scoping questionnaire, and then use the results to develop targeted workshop(s) to address some of the barriers/issues identified in the questionnaire, as well as making wider recommendations.

The aims of the project are:

  • To investigate levels of staff adoption and departmental take-up of ‘good practice’ recommendations for improving BAME student attainment and continuation at UoN.
  • To engage both academic and professional services staff beyond the ‘usual suspects’ in order to widen the scope of efforts to improve BAME student attainment and continuation at UoN.
  • To understand internal and external factors influencing the levels of staff adoption and departmental take-up.
  • To explore institutional and staff barriers to improving BAME student attainment and continuation.
  • To explore potential solutions to overcoming the barriers.
