These sessions are available to on-site supervisors and practice educators who have or plan to support a social work student from the University of Northampton.

Practice Educator Refresher Training – 21st September 2023 – 9.30am -12.30pm or 29th March 2024- 9.30am – 12.30pm
This session is suitable for qualified Practice Educators who have not assessed a student for at least 2 years and plan to support a University of Northampton student. It is a refresher session for suitably qualified Social Work Practice Educators who support the development of students whilst on their practice placement.
Onsite supervisor – Roles and Responsibilities – 28th September 2023– 9.30am – 4.00pm or 5th April 2024 – 9.30 – 4.00pm
This is a pre-requisite for any staff member who will/would like to support students in an on-site supervisor capacity. The session will cover; The UON’s Social Work Programmes, the Professional Capabilities Framework, placement roles and responsibilities, learning opportunities, supervision, providing constructive feedback and how students are assessed on placement.
Supporting and Assessing University of Northampton Social Work Students – 29th November 2023 – 9.30 -12.30pm
This is open to all Practice Educators and is mandatory for those undertaking the PEPS 1 qualification.
The training session will cover student support requirements and assessment criteria, which is based on informed evidence-based judgements, including summative and formative assessments.
Supporting and Managing Failing Students – 13th December 2023 – 9.30am – 12.30 pm
This is open to all Practice Educators and is mandatory for those undertaking the PEPS 1 qualification. The aim of this training is to support Practice Educators who are assessing a student who is not progressing as expected. The session will explore additional opportunities, evidence and UON processes and procedures.
Developing Diversity & Inclusion in Placements – 12th October 2023 – 9.30am – 12.30pm or 17th May 2024
This is a NEW training course open to Practice Educators and on-site supervisors. The aim of this session is to explore how diversity and inclusion can be developed and promoted in placements. It will include input on student diversity, anti – oppressive and anti-discriminatory practice in practice education, the practice educator professional standards values statements and creative opportunities for student supervision.
Becoming Placement Ready – 1st March 2024 or 6th December 2024
This is a New training course open to placement organisations, PE’s and on-site supervisors who plan to offer placements to UON social work students. It will offer insight into the processes at the university, expectations of placement providers and tips on how to create an appropriate learning environment for students.
Social Justice in Practice Education – 10th January 2023 – 9.30 -12.30
This session is suitable for qualified practice educators, on-site supervisors and is mandatory for those undertaking PEPS. The aim of this session is to support placement educators to develop their students understanding of social justice in relation to their area of practice. It will include ways in which to support students to understand social justice and their role within it.
