Bears put a century past Staffordshire as winning streak extends to four

UON Men’s Rugby Union team beat a depleted University of Staffordshire team 102-0 after the game was called as a friendly due to Staffordshire’s low numbers.

Before the match, a meeting was held between the captains of both teams and the referee and the match was confirmed as a friendly with The Bears guaranteed to take the full five points from the match.

The Bears got off to a blistering start with a whopping six tries from six different players in the first 15 minutes as Staffordshire were really taken to the sword in the opening stages of the match.

From there, UON really kicked on as they took advantage of the vast space left on the pitch by Staffordshire and kept crossing the tryline at regular intervals all the way up to half time.

Before the second half started both teams decided to go to 15-a-side, with UON providing Staffordshire with three of their players.

But, that didn’t stop The Bears as they continued their scoring pattern from the first half, scoring a further six tries in the second half.

The pick of those tries being in-form Fly-half Evan Wyatt’s as he carved the defence open and turned the Staffordshire full-back inside out before diving over the line.

The game finished 102-0 with The Bears rightfully amped up for the match next week where they face Staffordshire once again at home.
