The University of Northampton’s women’s rugby team faced a difficult 29-7 defeat at the Waterside Campus in their first competitive game in over five years.
The game started slowly with both teams battling for a better position on the field with UON coming out on best.
Although it would be the visitors who would score the first try of the game going over in the corner, the subsequent conversion was missed. 5-0.
Minutes after Coventry would add a second try going under the posts, yet again this would not be converted. 10-0.
UON would try and gain momentum following several injury delays but would, unfortunately, find themselves conceding a third.
The visiting number 8 doing well to dodge the tackle attempts to get away from the defence to dive over to score. The extras would yet again be missed. 15-0.
Kareema Johnson would then go on to score the first and only try for the Scarlets with a brilliant run through the Coventry defence. The extra two would be added to make it 15-7.

Going into the break, the home side was looking to add to their first score although they would soon find themselves further behind.
Another try just after half-time gave the visitors the bonus point in Northampton, this time it was converted 22-7.
Coventry believed they had found another two minutes later.
A bizarre error with the away flanker walking the ball over the deadfall line despite having no defenders around her to stop the inevitable score.
The away side would wrap up the scoring with a fifth try, yet again converted to make it 29-7.
Coventry will come away with all five points but the Scarlets will come away with plenty of positives.
