The Scarlets face Coventry University tomorrow in their first and debut fixture of the season which will take place at the Waterside Campus 4G Pitches.
Captain Lydia Hardwick said: “We are so excited for tomorrow, obviously there’s a lot of nerves going around but primarily we are just so excited to get a squad out and see how it goes.”
Discussing the team’s chances ahead of the match Hardwick said: “In terms of winning the game, I would say we are really confident. We reckon we’ve got a really solid chance.
“We’ve got a good squad which we are putting out, and we have got a solid bench as well so we have got plenty of players to cycle through.”
The teams training has been full match focused: “Our training has been really on it these last couple of weeks as well leading into the game we have covered everything we need to cover.
“Everyone knows what they need to be doing, so we’re feeling really good about it.”
With the team being made up of many new players Vice Captain and President Carys Wellicome said: “When we put the team sheet out the other day it felt a bit surreal,
Lydia and I had a few tears we are that proud, it’s very exciting.”
The team are in high spirits and are ready to face their competition,
“I think everyone’s spirits are very high and they’re ready to go into the game, there is a lot of nervousness which is going to be normal amongst most of these girls as they’ve never played a rugby game but they have absolutely smashed it,” said Wellicome.
With the match just hours away the team had their final preparations tonight and their hard workhasn’t gone unnoticed by the teams president who said: “The girls have absolutely smashed it in training up until now and none of this would of been able to happen without the rest of the committee and Guy and his coaching.”
