The University of Northampton won’t play Staffordshire 1’s this Wednesday in the Conference Trophy Cup game.
The Bears were set to play the Stoke-based team at home on Wednesday, but due to a lack of Staffs players and some injuries, and as a result of last week’s meet between the two sides, the away side have pulled out of tomorrow’s game.
It comes as a disappointment to the team as Captain Taylor Randall said: “We are a bit disappointed, we always want to play, we are a competitive side but we’ve got a lot of players out on injury or just back from injury so it will do us a favour having a week off.”
It will be a knock to the team who, not only will want to continue their momentum, but also give players the opportunities to implement training drills to match days.
Randall continued: “We were looking to give some boys some opportunities to see what they are made of.
“Its all good in training, but everyone is different on game day so we will just have to find out another week.”
The game is set to be rearranged in January which will fall around the exam season period posing a challenge for the Bears,
“The game is getting moved to our bye week in January which we were kind of needing, as we understand there’s a lot of exams but, we’ve got to play the hand we are given.”
With a week off now from matches, the squad will turn their attention towards getting the team refocused, stretched, and continuing their journey as they aim for promotion this season.
