Staffordshire 1’s Match Reaction: Evan Wyatt

Flyhalf Evan Wyatt notched up 42 points as the University of Northampton thrashed an under-strength Staffordshire 1’s 102-0.

Staffordshire were only able to field 12 players for the university league fixture and the game ended with the home side lending the visitors players to make the game more even.

Northamptons number 10 Evan Wyatt said, “We still wanted to get something out of it so we dropped down to the same numbers as them and carried on playing our game, we adapted well to that and still played our game.

“In the second half, we were looking to bring more of an actual game plan into it so we gave them some of our players.” he said.

Facing the team for the second time this season the Bears were aware of their competition and wanted to put out a performance they would be happy with.

“I think we did really well. They didnt turn up fully up for it but we were full up for it from the start, players playing out of positions so we did really well to adapt that and keep playing our game.” Said Wyatt.

Having a clean sheet was a goal for the team as they went into this week as they aimed to achieve some personal and team targets against Staffordshire.

Wyatt said: “Its really good to have it thats what are our target was coming into the season and keep the points to nil.

“We gave away a few penalties but the boys reacted quickly.”

Moving into next week the two teams will face each other again for the third time this season as the squad hope to repeat their result this week.

“Its a good building block and moving into next week we are hoping to do the exact same thing.”

The Bears take on Staffordshire 1 in the Conference Cup as they playback on the 4G pitches on the Waterside Campus.
