Warwick 3s Match Reaction: Matt Wainright

The Bears kickstarted their month of home games yesterday and came away with a 61-19 victory over Warwick.

It was a strong start for the side who had a confident first half seeing the half-time score sit at 49-7.

Head coach Matt Wainright spoke after the match about his team’s performance.

“It’s a massive result for the boys we are now three from three in their league, and building again,” said Wainright

With a confident first half the side looked set for a victory but did face some challenges including injuries to key playmakers within the team during the second half.

“Probably a better first 20 minutes then a couple of injuries which knocked us off our track.”

Overall Wainright was impressed with his team’s performance especially with the team being able to apply continued pressure like they had hoped to achieve when being on home turf.

“It was a good start, we spoke a lot about it in the week wanting to start well especially at home,

“We find it when we travel our legs are a bit tired in the first 10-15 minutes, but it’s can we put that on other teams?”

With eyes on next week, the side is hoping to continue its form and come away with another strong result.

“I think we need to focus a little on our defense, I think a few of the fundamentals of our defense which we said we would go about this year doing we didn’t do,

“But the rest like when it’s raining like it did halfway through the game you can’t really complain, so the lads did really well to stick at it.”

Heading into next week the Bears are facing Staffordshire Men’s 1 who they faced in their opening match of the season and will be hoping to come away with the same result as last time, a victory!
