Bears record comprehensive win against Warwick

UON men’s rugby union record their third win of the season with a big 61-19 win against the University of Warwick 3’s.

The Bears really showed their quality, especially in the first half, this match with an eight-try win against a very competitive Warwick side in this league.

UON got off to an electric start, with three tries in the first 10 minutes through hooker Ben Hart, centre Tino Nyadundu and fly-half Evan Wyatt to go 21-0 up.

The Bears didn’t stop there as the tries kept flowing through Warwick’s poor defence; Lock Ben Lazenby ran from his own half for UON’s fourth.

Wyatt got his second following some very slick ball movement and Nyadundu wasn’t getting left behind when it came to tries as he chased a kick for his second.

This unstoppable spell allowed the bears to grow their lead by another 21 points to 42-0 and the game was all but wrapped up a mere 20 minutes in.

An accidental injury to Evan Wyatt saw his removal from the game and as a result, the match slowly became scrappy and the tries dried up for UON.

It took a whole 15 minutes for the next try to come as Joe Osivwemu scored his sixth try of the season after a smooth line-break from Lazenby gave him all the time he needed to get over the line and bring the Bears close to a first-half 50.

A try for Warwick showed that they still had fight in them and that UON shouldn’t fully relax and coast through the rest of the game.

The second half began the same way as the last 20 minutes of the first half ended, as there were many handling errors and the game continued to be very scrappy.

Warwick opened the scoring in the second half with a try from their scrum-half, who coolly threw a dummy to confuse the Bears defence and dot the ball down.

That try for Warwick was very quickly stamped out by a try for debutant hooker D.Marware kept UON’s lead very comfortable as the closing moments of the game drew closer.

But, the Bears still had time for one last try for replacement winger Tom Owen to complete the romp.

An utterly dominant win from the Bears that begins their month of home games.
