UON made it two wins out of two in the BUCS league last Wednesday with a 21-7 win over Harper Adams 3s.
It was a good result for the Bears in tricky conditions with last season’s top try scorer Sam Cowan back on the score list.
The Bears have gotten off to another strong start to the season, and they are building something special with many new players.
Cowan said: “As a team overall, we had a lot of subs today and we bonded quite well together and came away with a win.”
Cowan scored tries last season and was delighted to get over the whitewash in the BUCS league.
“It feels good!
Two tries in two games; it was quite fortunate circumstances for me to score but I backed myself and put my head down, i got round to score and nearly dropped it but a try is a try.”
The winger has been a prolific scorer for the UON Bears over the last year leading the teams scoring in both Varsity and Cross code.
He will want to add to his already brace of scores this year as he aims to be the top scorer for the team again this season.
The home side was on top for most of the game and was defensively solid only conceding a late penalty try.
Harper Adams 3s offered very little ball in hand and were lucky not to concede less with Evan Wyatt continuing his confident goal-kicking.
The Bears have a chance to make it three wins out of three when they face Worcester University away on the 25th of October.
