It’s not often that a first-year student is appointed to a high-importance role in a University sports team. In fact, it is extremely rare.
But for Evan Wyatt, the step up to vice-captain has come within a month of him moving to Northampton, and he is delighted with the opportunity.
You’ve been appointed Vice Captain, that’s huge for a ‘fresher’, what was your initial reaction when you were told?
“I was surprised, like you said it is huge.
“It is a big responsibility and respected role and to know I have the backing of the committee to be vice captain is amazing.”
How has it been joining the squad, how are you getting on with the team in preseason?
“Really good, all the boys have made myself and other freshers feel welcomed.
“The attitude everyone brings to training and games is next level.
“We all want to push and get into that starting team and show what we are capable of.”
What are you most excited about going into this season?
“I am excited to work along side Taylor and the rest of the team to lead on and off the pitch and contributing to our collective success this season.”
How you feeling about being vice captain, relishing the opportunity?
“I’m excited.
“Being a leader in a very strong team is an opportunity I will thrive in.
“Rugby is a huge part of my life and will be throughout my university years, and to be selected as vice captain so soon is a privilege I won’t take lightly.
“It’ll be a huge experience and I want to hit the ground running come the start of the league.”
