Research related to Early Childhood Studies degrees

The Early Childhood Studies (ECS) degrees came into existence from 1992, arising out of Early Childhood researchers, training organisations and practitioners’ concerns over the levels of education and quality in the early childhood workforce in England (Silberfeld and Mitchell, 2021).

As a senior lecturer and programme leader of  this course at the University of Northampton (https://www.northampton.ac.uk/courses/early-childhood-studies-ba-hons/) I am passionate about inspiring students to be professionals who are able to articulate what is best for children and to advocate for the best for each and every child – in whatever profession they choose to enter.

My research within this area therefore has the student experience at the heart of everything – it is my aim that we give students the best possible experience whilst studying at university but also that we give them the best possible experience in the workplace by equipping them with the necessary skills and attitudes to make a difference for children and their families.
