Story Telling- Dear Zoo resources- Laura Cantell and Sarah Battams

Sarah Battams and myself created two adaptions of the story Dear Zoo. One we made using story jumper which worked well as you were able to add your own scenes and pictures as well as ones they already had available. We used a digital camera to take pictures of small world animals and people in natural surroundings and used these for our pictures in the book, using the original story, although we did not use all the animals from the story as this was a prototype and we did not have all the animals on hand to do this. However this does not effect the importance and understanding of the story.

Book titled 'Dear Zoo'

Sarah used the Tellagama app to create a short lesson introduction before the story, this was easy to use and makes lesson introductions slightly different and more engaging for the children. Perhaps the children could be included in creating an introduction or being part of the plenary using this and explaining their thoughts. It also uses shadow puppet edu, and was then exported to iMovie to create a whole project.

I feel both this stories could be a useful resource for SEN children as well, as it makes the story more engaging and the children could join in with using the Tellagamma through their own voices or noises using objects or musical instruments, they could be supported in making their own story.
