Touch Cast: Introducing Space with a film clip.

Subject: Space

Key Stage: We would use this application with Key Stage one, as children will simple understanding of how to use the ipads as well as a range of apps on them.

Title: Moon visit.

Idea: Introduce the children to the topic of space. This idea will give children the opportunity to ask questions about what they would like to find out about space and the certain things that happen in space. The idea allows practitioners to plan activities across the curriculum, as this topic can be related to science, history, geography and literacy.

Key Questions: The key questions we may use throughout this activity would be:
1. What language do you think the aliens are speaking?
2. What do you think the aliens are saying?
3. Do you think the aliens are worried about where they are?
4. Do you think anyone can hear the aliens?
5. Do you think they are far away from home?
6. How do you think the aliens got there?

Skills: The skills the children will be using throughout this activity are communication (speaking, listening, writing and reading) exploration, observation, creative skills, problem solving skills.

Activities: The different activities the children could do following this small clip made:
It enables the children to create their own aliens going to the moon and exploring space.
The children could also create certain instructions to get the aliens to visit earth. (Literacy)
This starter could lead the activity of children researching the man on the moon. (History)
Children could explore different kinds of maps and maybe research which different types of maps aliens may use.
The children could research space in more detail, e.g. the temperature of space and its different features.

Taking it Further:
We could extend this activity as children could create their own video of what they have interpreted the puppets to say.
The children could also create their own party for the aliens and have a space like theme, which includes the children creating invitations and decorations for the party.
The children could also think about the foods the aliens eat and maybe make some different foods, which they have found the aliens might enjoy.
The children could research the different transport and equipment used in space.
