I’m Rebecca Heaton a Senior Lecturer in Education (Art) at The University of Northampton working in initial teacher education. I aspire to enthuse the teachers I train to use creative practices to teach art and design while helping them embark on a journey of creative exploration. I have a real passion for arts education, creative thinking and new innovations and hope through sharing this blog that many creative directions and thoughts can be evoked.
As an arts educator, researcher, teacher and artist my identity is difficult to categorise; I see myself as a creative open to new possibilities. Education excites me; I have previous experience as a Head of Arts, an art specialist teacher and generalist primary practitioner teaching pupils from 3-11. I have a love for the arts and hope to share this with you whilst keeping you updated on exciting developments in my own practice and the realm of arts education.
At present I am researching the area of cognition in art education and I am using this blog to track developments in my own understanding of cognition. This encapsulates study towards a doctorate of education at Cambridge University, prior to this I completed an MA in Art Education at Oxford Brookes University beginning with the Artist Teacher Scheme. I have a PGCTHE enabling me to teach in higher education and am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. The undergraduate degree I hold is a BAED (4Yr) Hons in Educational Studies and Art with QTS from the University of Reading.
I hope you enjoy engaging with this blog and welcome any creative thoughts or feedback you have about the content shared.
