October 2019 – Introductory first post

Welcome to the first blog post for this project on student engagements.

The stated aims for the project (as submitted in the bid application) are:

Looking at the entire level 4 2019 student intake for a single programme, student experience and ‘engagement’ will be comprehensively mapped and explored. This project will look beyond the ‘what’ to consider individual context in recognising ‘engagement’; exploring obstacles and enablers whilst seeing student experience holistically.

The project lead is PT for this entire cohort and will teach them in several level 4 modules. This project will add qualitative depth to the quantitative contextual data available through existing systems (Oasis and LEARN) that might build on and challenge that data and the conclusions and actions we draw from them.

The overall, driving intention of the project is to synthesise existing data with individual contexts and narratives to better recognise and acknowledge the individual subjectivities of student engagements. This holistic enquiry mapping is intended to support the university to improve students’ diverse experiences, and consequently improve retention, progression and continuation.

Any thoughts on this topic and/or project now and as the year progresses will be most welcome!
