Much loved (?) by Moodle users for many, many years, Hot Potatoes is a desktop tool which can create a variety of interactive quizzes and tests. It is possible to include feedback and generate a user score but we cannot currently capture this into the NILE Grade Centre.
It is completely free to use and is relatively quick to use to input large numbers of questions. It can be downloaded from https://hotpot.uvic.ca/ in native Windows or Java version. As the latter can be used on a Mac, Linux or Windows machine and requires no access privileges it is probably the best to use.
While not exactly beautiful, they can be tidied up to add buttons and icons instead of the simplistic text versions ( ‘=>’ for a right arrow, etc.). The system creates a single HTML file which can be added to NILE’s content collection. This can either be linked to as a Web Link or embeded. In both cases, use the permanent URL that can be found by editing the file settings once uploaded.
Embedded content is added to NILE text boxes using this format (replacing the highlighted text):
<p><iframe width=”700″ height=”400″ src=”https://nile.northampton.ac.uk/bbcswebdav/xxxx/xxx“></iframe></p>
