How to make a finite space bigger: Redesigning library study space while accommodating current and growing resources

Abstract:

Last summer we had the opportunity to complete our refurbishment plans of Park library.  This third stage of refurbishment was concentrated on our books floors.  Student feedback had suggested more individual study was required with increased quiet and silent study areas.  We were also aware that our shelving capacity and its quality needed to be reviewed and remedied. However, our budget of £1 million was reduced by more than 80%.  Obviously this meant our plans had to be reviewed.

It turns out that with a bit compromise and ingenuity you can make a finite space bigger.
