The Northampton Area Psychology Teacher’s Group is a collaborative initiative led by Psychology lecturers at The University of Northampton with local Psychology school teachers.
How might NAP Benefit me as a Psychology School Teacher?
NAP meetings bring together Psychology educators in order to promote exchange of ideas, a community of practice, curriculum updates and developments within the field. Benefits for educators include opportunities for networking, collaboration, knowledge exchange, alignment of Further/ Higher Education curriculum specifications and continuing professional development. Meetings take place bi-monthly at The University of Northampton after school closing times.
What Other NAP Events are Available?
The NAP group hosts a number of events at The University of Northampton for local teachers and Psychology students. This includes:
– The Northampton Area Psychology (NAP) Revision Conference – A full day event involving interactive breakout tutorials for Year 12 and Year 13 students with Psychology lecturers, on a range of revision topics. Keynote talks from examination board representatives, revision tips and strategies, as well as a Q&A session for teachers are also included.
– The Northampton Area Practical Experience of Research (NAPPER) Days – Two full day events for Year 12 and Year 13 students provide practical experience of conducting research under the supervision of Psychology lecturers in their area of expertise. NAPPER days allow students to work in groups on their research design, ethical procedures, data collection, analysis and data interpretation. Students produce and present a conference poster to other students, teachers and Psychology lecturers.
NAP events are developed in collaboration with Psychology school teachers for students. Teachers joining the NAP mailing list will also be informed about other events throughout the year. Previously, other NAP events have included a Psychology Project Conference, whereby Year 12 and Year 13 students present their projects to Psychology lecturers, as well as a Milton Keynes Psychology Teachers’ Group. Refreshments and parking are provided at all events. Pictures of our recent events can be found in the NAP Event gallery.
What are the Benefits for my Students?
There are a number of benefits to school students involved in NAP events. These events provide students with valuable opportunities to further develop their Psychology knowledge and skills for their current assessments, whilst providing additional enhancement for UCAS or employment applications. NAP events allow students to become familiar with a Higher Education environment and talk to University lecturers and students about Psychology, whilst networking with Psychology teachers and students from other schools. Students find NAP events interesting and enjoyable, as they are useful for their current studies, University applications and future careers.
