1.Consultation on new air quality plan

The government today published a draft plan to improve air quality by reducing nitrogen dioxide levels in the UK.

The options now open for consultation on reducing nitrogen dioxide in towns and cities are designed to reduce the impact of diesel vehicles, and accelerate the move to cleaner transport.

2. The Guardian Sustainable Business Awards

The Guardian Sustainable Business Awards recognise those businesses that are undertaking ‘innovation and impact’ in communicating sustainability and engaging with employees to make sustainability relevant for them and the wider society. The awards also champion business commitment to the fundamental issues relating to sustainability – the environment, energy, recycling and the industrial supply chain and the achievements of consultants.

4. The Group’s 2017 conference

The Group’s 2017 conference will be held on Thursday October 5, at the Northampton Town’s football ground in Sixfields, Northampton. The event will focus on the sustainable management of food waste from the healthcare and hospitality sectors. It will feature speakers from WRAP, Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, the Co-opNorthamptonshire Waste Partnership and Severn Trent Water. 5. Need training to manage a waste site?

Operators are required to ensure they have appropriate technically competent managers on site in accordance with an ‘approved scheme’. The EPOC course will enable you to gain an Environmental Permitting Operators Certificate. This proves that you are technically competent and know how to comply with your waste facilities’ environmental permit and waste regulations.
