1. I&I WG: Investment platform
The I&I WG is pleased to invite you to a WG meeting on Investment Platforms on 29th May. This meeting is co-organised with the Bioeconomy WG, the Smart Cities WG and the Blue Growth WG, as the investment platforms presented and discussed during the meeting touch upon all these thematic areas.
The event will particularily look into the URBIS – Urban investment advisory platform, as well as the newly announced Circular Economy Platform.

2. Applications open for National Apprenticeship Awards
This year’s National Apprenticeship Awards, which seeks to reflect the quality of apprenticeships across all sectors, is now open for entries.
The fifteenth iteration of the successful event, led by the National Apprenticeship Service, features new categories such as Recruitment Excellence, which will recognise employers who attracted a diverse and high-quality workforce in more innovative ways.

3. The hydrogen revolution in Sheffield
Air quality in the UK is a serious problem. A joint study between Lancet Countdown and the Royal College of Physicians last year found that 44 cities in the UK were in breach of World Health Organization guidelines on clean air.
It makes sense, then, that councils should take the lead on trying to clear the air in their local areas by adopting more environmentally-friendly options in their own fleets.
One innovative option is already being explored in Sheffield, where the council is working with Amey to trial two vans that use hydrogen power in its road maintenance fleet.

4. Workshop on waste classification
The Group will be hosting a workshop on waste classification on 19 September 2018, in Sheffield. More details to follow.
5. Open funding call
This competition is open to the best cutting-edge or disruptive ideas or concepts with a view to commercialisation.
These can come from any area of technology, science or engineering, including arts, design, media or creative industries, and be applied to any part of the economy.
They can fit into, or be outside of, any one or more of Innovate UK’s Challenge Areas.
There is also the opportunity to apply for a separate, independent competition, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs).
