2. Half day workshop on remanufacturing/repair/reuse and single use in the healthcare sector
This half-day workshop which is sponsored by Grundon Waste Management Ltd, will focus on the remanufacturing/repair/reuse of bulky items, as well as the effective management of single use items in healthcare facilities. There will be short presentations from Alan Armstrong from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and Karl Sheehan from Sharpsmart. Following the presentations, there will be the opportunity for discussion and the sharing of information. These discussions will be facilitated by Anne Woolridge and Maria Mahon. A light lunch will be served at the end.

3. National Audit Office warns on the financial viability of councils
The National Audit Office (NAO) has recently warned central government that the state of local authority finances is “not sustainable” as lack of funding cuts away at services.
In a new report on the financial future of councils, the watchdog has laid bare the issues and claims that many authorities have been forced to begin using their savings reserves to combat “a range of new demand and cost pressures.”

4. Free CIWM workshop on apprenticeships
Apprenticeships provide the opportunity for companies to provide long term training focused on making real changes to how individuals perform at work. Recent changes to apprenticeships and the introduction of a levy, paid by all organisations in the UK with a wage bill of more than £3m, has generated greater interest in apprenticeships than ever before.
The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) are committed to helping individuals and organisations to understand more about how they can access apprenticeship training and navigate how apprenticeship training works, and will be running a webinar on 22 March to provide an introduction to apprenticeships in our sector

5. 2018 Postcode Lottery Green Challenge launched for entrepreneurs with ideas to tackle climate change
The Postcode Lottery Green Challenge is a contest that rewards inventions that successfully combine sustainability, entrepreneurship and creativity. The jury looks for products and services that contribute to an eco-friendly lifestyle, directly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and score highly on convenience, quality and design.
