2. Risks associated with the management of healthcare waste in London

A recently published academic article on the use of risk analysis tools to reduce the risks associated with managing healthcare waste. Key hazards included contact with sharps, infectious agents and hazardous substances. Most of the hazards occurred in the wards and involved nurses in contact with sharps.

This parliamentary seminar is co-hosted with the All-Party Parliamentary Health Group (APHG) and will explore issues around healthcare and medicines waste. In 2013, the NHS spent over £86million on the disposal of clinical waste and alongside NHS targets to half its carbon footprint by 2015, recycling rates are up by 26% since 2007/08. In light of these figures, this event will seek to examine the opportunities for efficiency savings through waste reduction in the NHS
 This event will be chaired by Neil Carmichael MP.
