At a Glance: Placement Approval Criteria
- Students must pass HRMM072: Career Futures before they can progress to the placement year
- The placement must involve the use of higher-level skills (require an undergraduate degree)
- The placement must be fixed-term, not permanent
- The placement must be for a minimum of 6 months, up to a maximum of 12 months
- The placement must be paid at least UK current minimum wage (or equivalent for placements outside the UK)
- The placement must be full-time (Minimum 35 hours per week, maximum 48 hours per week) but you may only work for 20 hours a week maximum outside the designated ‘placement window’
- Approval is gained only when you have submitted four complete documents that should be uploaded to the HRMM072 NILE site: UoN Placement Proposal Form; Offer Letter from the employer stating salary and start and end dates; Job description; UoN health and safety form. Blank forms may be accessed from the HRMM072 NILE site.
- Students must meet the deadline for placement proposal submission (as stated on the HRMM072 NILE site) for their placements to be approved.

Guidance from the UKVI
Guidance in paragraphs 208 to 222 explains that if you are a Tier 4 (general) student…then in certain circumstances, you will be permitted to undertake a work placement as part of your course, providing it is an integral and assessed part of your course. Tier 4 Policy Guidance version 08/2019.
