Circular Supply Chains in Emerging Economies – A comparative study of packaging recovery ecosystems in China and Brazil.

Principal Investigator: Dr Luciano Batista

This project is funded by the British Academy, Newton Fund Mobility Grants. The aim of the project is to provide a circular supply chain perspective of packaging recovery ecosystems being implemented by Tetra Pak, a global supplier of food packaging in two strong emerging economies in the world economic scenario: China and Brazil. The project is being developed in partnership with Professor Jeff Jia (University of Bristol), Dr Yu Gong (University of Southampton), and Dr Susana Pereira (Getulio Vargas Foundation, Brazil). The research will provide theoretical references, learning points, practical insights and specific recommendations that are valuable for academics and practitioners interested in the Chinese and Brazilian markets as well as in the sustainability practices concerning the packaging industry and the food sector. The theoretical and practical perspectives to be developed by the project also provide valuable contributions to bring theory forward and reinforce consumption and production practices advocated by the circular economy.
