During this lecture we looked at exciting ways to engage children with music. This was done using well known stories, interests and their own interests. Some of these I had heard of before but it was great to learn some new ones. These are especially useful in EYFS as they really seem to love expressing themselves musical at the stage and if help to learn stories trough repeated refrains. This video shows us teaching the rest of the group.

One activity I really liked was using traditional tales and adding sound effects.  As a game which added a rhyme to passing round a magic bag. The contents of the bag was a secret as when the song stopped the child was able to feel inside the bad and make a guess as to what they though was inside. this is great as  I feel this could be use for literally anything. For example, shapes in Maths or letter sounds in Phonics.

I used this to teach rhyming words as a whole class literacy activity. I found it to really engaging and after the lesson children accessed the activity without an adult focusing them. A child also asked me if we could try this activity again which was really encouraging!
