In this session we look at using dance as a way of telling stories or nursery rhymes. This ties in with two Early Learning Goals from the EYFS development matters document. These are; Children sing songs, make music and dance, and experiment with ways of changing them, and they represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role play and stories.

We did a few different activities in this session but the one I am most likely to implement in a lesson is the dance we did to tell the story of Humpty Dumpty. firstly, we went though the story using pictures. We then had a go at creating a move for each picture. Finally we put this to music to create a dance.

Here is the video of us doing the Humpty Dumpty dance

I often ask children to help me act out parts of a story so putting it to music is a really great idea and helps to create ideas the children ca use during play.
